Belgrade, Serbia – The President of the Republic of Angola, His Excellency João Lourenço, arrived in Belgrade on Monday for a three-day official visit to the Republic of Serbia, marking a new chapter in the strengthening of bilateral relations between Luanda and Belgrade. The visit, which runs until June 10, reflects the shared determination of both nations to deepen their political, economic, and diplomatic cooperation.
Welcomed with official honors by Serbian authorities upon his arrival in the capital, the Angolan Head of State is taking part in a comprehensive program that highlights the strong and longstanding ties between the two countries.
The centerpiece of the visit will be the official meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. The two leaders are expected to review the current state of bilateral relations and discuss a range of issues of mutual interest. Particular attention will be given to expanding cooperation in strategic sectors such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure, education, defense, and investment.
At a time when the international landscape is undergoing significant geopolitical and economic transformations, Angola and Serbia are seeking to strengthen their cooperation mechanisms in order to seize new opportunities for growth and development. The discussions are expected to lead to the signing of several agreements aimed at expanding institutional, commercial, and technical exchanges between the two nations.
One of the highlights of the visit will be the exchange of the highest national honors between Presidents João Lourenço and Aleksandar Vučić. This symbolic gesture reflects the strength of the friendship between Angola and Serbia and their mutual recognition of the leadership demonstrated by both heads of state in fostering closer ties between their peoples.
The visit forms part of Angola’s broader strategy to diversify its international partnerships under the leadership of President João Lourenço. In recent years, Luanda has intensified its diplomatic engagement worldwide in an effort to attract foreign investment, strengthen economic cooperation, and enhance the country’s presence on the global stage.
Beyond the agreements expected to be signed, the official visit to Belgrade is anticipated to inject new momentum into Angola–Serbia relations. Built on mutual respect, solidarity, and shared interests, this partnership is increasingly viewed as an important driver for supporting the development ambitions of both countries and reinforcing their influence within their respective regions.
Through this visit, President João Lourenço reaffirms Angola’s commitment to an active diplomacy focused on dialogue, partnership, and the building of lasting international relationships that contribute to economic progress and closer cooperation among nations.
