The President of the Republic of Burundi, His Excellency Évariste Ndayishimiye, received in audience on May 29, 2026, at the Kiriri Palace, Mohamed El-Amine Souef, Chief of Staff to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, bearer of a message from the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
During the meeting, the African Union envoy praised the leadership of the Burundian Head of State and his continued commitment to dialogue, peace, and stability across the African continent, particularly in the Sahel region. Mohamed El-Amine Souef also paid tribute to the professionalism of Burundian soldiers engaged in African peacekeeping operations, describing them as a model for the continent’s security forces.
Discussions between the two officials also focused on the health challenges that Africa continues to face. President Évariste Ndayishimiye called for stronger support for public health programs across the continent, particularly in the fight against the Ebola virus disease, which remains a major concern for several African countries.
The Burundian Head of State called for collective mobilization and strengthened African solidarity to support the efforts of affected countries and prevent any further spread of the epidemic. He stressed the importance of cooperation between African institutions and member states in effectively addressing health crises.
This audience reflects the shared determination of Burundi and the African Union to strengthen African mechanisms for peace, security, and public health, in a spirit of continental solidarity and shared responsibility.
