Political consultations focused on bilateral cooperation and regional challenges
The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, made a few-hour working visit to Brazzaville this Friday, 3 July 2026, where he held talks with his counterpart from the Republic of the Congo, Denis Sassou-Nguesso. This meeting is part of the ongoing political consultations between the two Heads of State, a mechanism designed to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
During their discussions, the two leaders reviewed several issues of common interest, notably the state of bilateral cooperation, security and health concerns, as well as the prospects for strengthening relations between Kinshasa and Brazzaville.
One of the major focuses of this meeting was the fight against the Ebola virus disease affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo. On this occasion, President Denis Sassou-Nguesso reaffirmed the solidarity of the Republic of the Congo with the DRC in its response to this epidemic. He also commended the leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi and the efforts made by the Congolese authorities to contain the spread of the disease and protect the population.
The two Heads of State also discussed regional and international challenges, in a context marked by the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council. They stressed the importance of ongoing consultation among the states of the subregion in order to promote peace, stability and development in Central Africa.
At the end of this visit, Félix Tshisekedi and Denis Sassou-Nguesso reaffirmed their shared commitment to consolidating the historical, fraternal and strategic ties that unite their two countries. They insisted on the need to pursue efforts towards strengthened cooperation in the political, economic, security and health fields, for the benefit of the Congolese peoples on both banks of the Congo River.
This meeting once again demonstrates the two leaders’ determination to maintain ongoing dialogue and to make cooperation between Brazzaville and Kinshasa an essential lever for meeting common challenges and promoting regional integration.
