Burundi Leads Continental Efforts to Strengthen Africa’s Health Systems
The President of the Republic of Burundi and current Chairperson of the African Union, His Excellency Évariste Ndayishimiye, arrived in Accra, Ghana, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to participate in the 20th Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly, a high-level meeting dedicated to addressing the continent’s most pressing health priorities.
Upon his arrival at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport, the Burundian Head of State was warmly welcomed by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, underscoring the strategic importance of this summit for Africa’s health agenda.
A Strategic Summit to Address Africa’s Health Challenges
The 20th Extraordinary Session brings together African Heads of State and Government, senior officials of African Union institutions, and key international partners to assess progress in public health and define new strategies for addressing the continent’s health challenges.
