Cameroon’s capital is preparing for one of the most significant transformations in its water supply system.
With the laying of the foundation stone for the Drinking Water Network Reconfiguration Project, the Government has officially launched one of the country’s largest water infrastructure modernization programs.
Initiated under the directives of President Paul Biya, the project responds to the urgent need to support Yaoundé’s rapid urban growth while addressing persistent water shortages affecting thousands of households.
A Stronger and More Efficient Network
The upgraded system is designed to:
Improve water pressure throughout the city;
Gradually eliminate water rationing;
Significantly reduce water losses;
Increase network efficiency from 52% to 75%.
These improvements will also strengthen CAMWATER’s operational performance and enhance the quality and reliability of public water services.
Thousands of Families to Benefit
Residents of Yaoundé, Soa, Akak, Mfou, Bikok, and Mbankomo will be the primary beneficiaries.
Schools, universities, hospitals, government offices, commercial establishments, and industries will also enjoy a more stable water supply.
Through the installation of 30,000 new service connections, many underserved neighborhoods will finally gain regular access to safe drinking water.
International Expertise at Work
The project brings together leading Belgian and Italian engineering companies specializing in water infrastructure.
Their expertise will support the construction of modern pumping stations, strategic reservoirs, and hundreds of kilometers of new pipelines designed to secure Yaoundé’s water supply for decades to come.
The initiative reflects Cameroon’s determination to invest in strategic infrastructure capable of supporting the continued growth of its capital.
