Faced with a dramatic increase of more than 55% in the number of children declared within the Civil Service in just 21 months, Cameroon’s Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, has decided to strengthen control mechanisms to ensure more rigorous management of public finances.
Cleaning Up the Government Payroll Database
Meeting on June 3, 2026, in Yaoundé, the Steering Committee of the Family Allowances Audit Operation (AALFA) officially launched an extensive verification process aimed at confirming the authenticity of declarations that entitle State employees to family allowance benefits.
This large-scale operation seeks to ensure that family benefits paid by the State are granted exclusively to legally declared beneficiaries. The authorities intend to strengthen the credibility of the government payroll database and combat irregularities that could negatively impact public finances.
Zero Tolerance for Fraudulent Declarations
Among the objectives assigned to the operation are preserving fairness among civil servants, improving the reliability of administrative data, and protecting public resources from all forms of fraud.
While chairing the Steering Committee meeting, the Minister of Finance reaffirmed the government’s determination to clean up the system. He emphasized that the AALFA operation aims, in particular, to identify and remove irregularly declared children from the government payroll database in order to put an end to undue payments.
“The objective of the AALFA operation is to remove from the payroll database all children fraudulently registered and to recover all sums that were unduly paid,” he stated.
A Matter of Good Governance
Through this initiative, the government is reaffirming its commitment to transparency, good governance, and effective control of public spending. The audit is expected to provide an accurate picture of the current situation and help establish more efficient control mechanisms to prevent future abuses.
The AALFA operation is therefore part of the broader effort to modernize public administration and secure State finances for the benefit of all Cameroonian citizens.
