The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, arrived in Luanda, Angola, on Thursday, July 16, 2026, to participate in the third edition of the global initiative entitled "A Call for Peace, an End to Wars, and Respect for International Law."

On the sidelines of the international event, President Tshisekedi held talks with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, against the backdrop of the ongoing security crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and the continued diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace in the Great Lakes region.

The discussions focused on the evolving security situation in eastern DRC, where recurring violence fueled by armed groups continues to threaten civilian populations and regional stability. Both Heads of State reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and supporting regional and international initiatives designed to promote peace, security, dialogue, and sustainable stability.

The meeting once again highlighted Angola’s pivotal role in regional mediation efforts. Under the leadership of President João Lourenço, Luanda has established itself as a key diplomatic actor in seeking peaceful solutions to the security challenges affecting Central Africa and the Great Lakes region.

President Tshisekedi’s participation in this global initiative also reflects the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s commitment to advancing peace, upholding international law, and promoting the peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and multilateral cooperation.

As security challenges continue to affect eastern DRC, high-level diplomatic consultations between regional leaders remain a crucial instrument for easing tensions, strengthening regional cooperation, and creating new opportunities for lasting peace and sustainable development for the millions of people impacted by years of conflict.
