A firm condemnation of the assailants from Sudan
The Higher Islamic Council of Central Africa and the National Council of Imams submitted, this afternoon, a joint statement to the President of the Republic, Professor Faustin Archange Touadéra. This initiative follows the attack carried out by armed groups in Amdafok, in Vakaga prefecture, on June 30. The Head of State’s guests condemned in the strongest terms this heinous attack, contrary to the spirit of peace promoted by Islam.
Foreign mercenaries do not represent the Muslim community
The religious leaders insisted on clarifying that this aggression, carried out by mercenaries from a neighboring territory in the name of an alleged Muslim community, cannot be endorsed by Central African Islamic bodies. They recalled that the Central African Republic has definitively turned its back on armed violence to commit resolutely to the path of peace and national reconciliation.
Compassion and support for the victims
Before expressing their compassion to the bereaved families, the Muslim leaders wished the wounded a speedy recovery. The assailants, who came from neighboring Sudan, sowed terror in this border locality, causing several deaths and injuries among defense forces and civilian populations. MINUSCA peacekeepers were also targeted.
President Touadéra firmly condemns the attacks and calls for unity
The President of the Republic took note of this statement and firmly condemned the attacks. He invited the population to reject violence and remain united against the enemies of peace. The Head of State urged Muslim leaders to continue their prayers for peace in the Central African Republic, as defense forces continue security operations in the border area.
