The President of the Republic of Benin, His Excellency Romuald Wadagni, continued his sub-regional diplomatic tour on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, with a working visit to the Republic of Togo.

A New Diplomatic Stop in Lomé

Following his visits to Niger and Burkina Faso, the Beninese Head of State was welcomed upon his arrival in Lomé by the President of the Council of the Togolese Republic, His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation and good-neighborly relations between Benin and Togo.

    Bilateral Cooperation and Security Challenges

During the visit, the two leaders held a one-on-one meeting focused on issues of common interest. Their discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation, addressing the security challenges facing the sub-region, and exploring prospects for deeper regional integration.

At a time when West Africa is confronted with significant security and development challenges, the meeting reflects the shared determination of Cotonou and Lomé to consolidate their historic ties and promote a coordinated approach to common challenges.

A Sub-Regional Tour with Political Significance

This Togolese stage further enhances the diplomatic significance of the tour undertaken by President Romuald Wadagni since his inauguration. Through these high-level consultations, Benin seeks to contribute to regional dialogue, sub-regional stability, and the promotion of closer cooperation among the countries of the region.

The meeting between the Beninese and Togolese leaders also reaffirms the excellent relations between the two neighboring countries, united by deep historical, economic, and human ties.
