The President of the Gabonese Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, will pay a state visit to France at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. On this occasion, President Macron and his wife, Mrs. Brigitte Macron, will welcome the Gabonese Head of State and the First Lady, Mrs. Zita Oligui Nguema, for a visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The visit comes just a few months after President Emmanuel Macron’s official trip to Gabon last November, reflecting the shared determination of both nations to open a new chapter in their cooperation. It marks an important milestone in consolidating a partnership built on dialogue, mutual respect, and shared strategic interests.
During their talks, the two Heads of State will discuss several priority areas of cooperation. Their discussions will focus on expanding economic ties, encouraging investment, advancing the energy transition, strengthening cultural cooperation, and enhancing collaboration in defense and security. The shared objective is to deepen relations between Paris and Libreville while supporting Gabon’s development ambitions.
Environmental issues will also feature prominently on the agenda. Emmanuel Macron and Brice Oligui Nguema are expected to discuss the protection of the Congo Basin rainforest, regarded as the world’s second-largest tropical rainforest after the Amazon. In the face of growing climate challenges, both leaders are expected to reaffirm their commitment to preserving this vital natural resource for Africa and the global community.
Beyond bilateral relations, the meeting will also provide an opportunity to address major regional and international issues, at a time of significant geopolitical change and an increasing need for stronger cooperation between Africa and Europe on peace, security, sustainable development, and the fight against climate change.
This state visit underscores the determination of Gabon and France to build a renewed partnership focused on concrete projects, mutually beneficial investments, and a form of cooperation that is better suited to the challenges of the 21st century.
